2) The shell fish beds from as far north as Maryport (Just north of Woekington) down to just below Haverigg have had a fishing ban on them for years - still does as far as I know. Most of the high radioactive readings are blamed on the effluent output of the Marchon soap factory which is about 12-14miles away to the north on the cliffs above Whitehaven.
